I am indifferent

  1. Interesting……something happened……this person is indifferent obviously, but the “cool, weighty and blue heart,” lets the reader know that it’s probably not a “good” thing that happened….”loss of a song….” hmmmmmm…….I like it.

  2. I agree with Karen — “crushed” and “indifferent” are at odds, which helps the reader see beyond the facade the speaker has created. I’ve returned to this poem a couple of times, re-reading it, and I find it’s working nicely as “imagism”: even though I don’t know the “history” or “facts” alluded to, I feel I have all of the emotion packaged in this vivid imagery, and that’s what matters.
